The Culture Portal cultural centre addresses the transition undergoing within the Worli-Koliwada fishing village. The conception of a cultural exchange program intends to balance the Koli people’s desire to innovate without letting go of their rich culture, developed over many generations. Residents can preserve their culture through the curation of exhibitions rotated though the programs network and inturn become better connected to the global community.
The massing and position of the building, across the width of the site, represents the transition between the old (Fishing Village) and new (Market Hall Residential) as people traverse the site. The building's program is split along the local / global axis creating workshops, studios and training spaces which support the discovery and sharing within the Culture Portal gallery.
